Asmtha tends to run in families and affects 10% of children and 5% of adults. It usually begins before the age of 5 years, cannot be cured, but can be controlled. Improved Bronchodilator technology and treatments, especially since the early 1990’s has resulted superior treatment outcomes. Those affected live normal lives, and enjoy sport.
Common triggers are dust mites, grass, pet hair and dust.
Inhalation of air pollutants, eg. Motor- vehicle fumes, cigarette smoke, aerosols, and fire-smoke (from anthracite or coal) in cities may trigger asthma in susceptible individuals.Asthma affects the air passageways or bronchi, in the lungs. The bronchi become swollen, with increased mucus lying in the airways. Muscles then go into spasm as a direct result of the inflammation.
If you suffer from asthma or allergic rhinitis (or sinusitis), or have a cold -you are prone to bronchitis, due to the inflammation caused by allergic reactions or infection, in the nasal cavity.
Asthma Treatment Options
Corticosteroid inhaler (anti-inflammatory) – can be nasal
Bronchodilator inhaler, either short-or long acting
Oral medications which differ depending on underlying causes
Vitamin D weekly -has been proven to improve pulmonary health
Zithromax is sometimes prescribed as a prophylactic (and for the anti-inflammatory benefits)

Steaming with hot water and covering your head with a towel -helps tremendously
