Eczema Symptoms

Eczema is an inflammatory condition of the skin, which may present with dry and itchy skin.

Itching can become intense and can lead to irritability, insomnia, and in some cases, depression.

Poor nutrition, a weakened immune system, as well as poor compliance to the prevention and management of eczema, affect the outcome of skin health and the need for prescribed creams.

Eczema Causes

Genes and Environment

Healthy skin is moist and slightly acidic, which offers a protective barrier, from the environment.

Recent research has revealed that mutations in the filaggrin gene predisposes individuals to developing eczema- when triggered by environmental factors.

Filaggrin is a “glue-like” protein, which knits together the skin’s barrier,  producing a ‘natural moisturizing factor’- which forms part of the skin’s immune defence-mechanism.

Low filaggrin levels, breaks the skin barrier, causing water-loss, dry skin and increased exposure to irritants. Soaps and detergents absorbed into the epidermis, interfere with the skin’s ability to repair and protect itself, which can dry the skin even further- causing additional deterioration of the weakened skin barrier- which in turn worsens eczema.

Food-and inhalant allergens are eventually able to penetrate into the upper layers of the epidermis, which sets in motion a cascade of increased allergic reactions; sometimes leading to asthma.

Eczema Treatment

Did you know that Cortisone can cause permanent damage to the skin, which results  in skin sensitivity that resembles eczema?

BreakthroughNo Cortisone

Bettamed® have spent 10 years pioneering the use of patented CHD-FA, to meet the special needs of inflamed and sensitive skin.

Bettamed’s Carbohydrate Derived Fulvic Acid (CHD-FA) is an “anti-inflammatory hero”.

“This product deserves a Nobel Prize.” – Prof. Desmond P.

Research and Biochemistry helps power-up the blend even more, with clinically proven botanicals like: Rosehip Oil, Chamomile, Colloidal Oats (gluten free) & Willlowherb.

This clever concoction targets all four areas of discomfort.

Bettamed Care Cream Benefits:

We use proven botanicals to take care of the special needs of allergic and inflamed skin.

  • Chamomile and Rose Essences are a time-honoured ingredients used to sooth and restore skin health.
  • Rosehip Oil and Vitamin C help heal damaged skin.
  • Shea Butter & Colloidal Oats (gluten free), seals in moisture, to help restore skin barrier, and protect against environmental allergens.
  • CHD-FA and Willowherb, is the ideal antidote to itching.

NOTE: This cream should be used as a first step in your eczema skincare routine, followed by a good pure moisturiser, to create a barrier between your skin and environmental irritants. This cream should also be used to reduce the use of cortisone creams, and their long-term side-effects.

The healing and soothing effects are rapid in onset and long-lasting. This is a safe soothing alternative, to reduce pain and inflammation (including itching) associated with eczema, shingles, burns and insect bites.

Bettamed Care Cream targets all 4 areas of concern:

  • Chamomile and Rose Essense – Sooth and restore skin
  • Rosehip and Vit C heal damaged skin
  • Shea Butter & Colloidal Oats moisturise and protect against
  • CHD-FA and Willowherb, is the ideal antidote to itching.

Moisturisation is an important part of the treatment of eczema, by creating a barrier between your skin and the allergens in your environment.

This will help reduce the need for the use of cortisone (or other prescribed) creams.

Moisturisers with gentle, soothing, anti-inflammatory ingredients, are recommended. In South Africa, most pharmacies stock well known moisturisers that are well tolerated. Epimax, Epiderm and Aveeno are good examples.
